Officials

Like any sport, softball relies upon volunteers to assist in the running of the teams. Depending upon the level of the game, teams will have a manager and maybe a scorer (NCSA does not keep score in Junior and Senior Tee Ball games).

Managers

The role of the team manager is to provide administrative support to the coach which allows the coach to focus on player development. The team manager can assist by carrying out tasks such as the following:

Scorers (Modified Softball and Higher)

The scorer is responsible for keeping the score for the team. Ideally, both teams have a scorer and the scorers should confer to make sure that the scores kept agree, the scorer should also keep track of the first player up to bat at the start of each innings (this is important as there are major pentalties for players batting in the incorrect order). An introduction to softball scoring is available here. If there's enough interest, the club will run a session for prospective scorers before the start of each season.
